Biography

You Met Ruff at Club Try-Angles 🌈

Well hello there.

If you’re reading this, something fun just happened.

You tapped your phone to my hand and ended up here.

Yes, the chip is real.
And no, your phone didn’t break.

You just scanned one of the NFC implants in my hand.

Most people look at their phone…
Then look at my hand…
Then look back at their phone again.

Welcome to Ruff’s corner of the internet.

Before We Go Any Further…

Thanks for stopping to say hello—and for being part of the wonderfully colorful community surrounding Club Try-Angles and Salt Lake City.

Maybe we met at the bar.
Maybe we crossed paths on the dance floor.
Maybe we started talking on the patio.

Or maybe you were simply trying to figure out how my hand just opened a website on your phone.

However it happened, I’m glad our paths crossed.

What Is Club Try-Angles?

Club Try-Angles is a late-night LGBTQ+ bar in Salt Lake City, Utah.

It’s a place for dancing, karaoke, pool, drinks, themed events, community gatherings, and connecting with a wonderfully diverse collection of humans.

If we met here, there’s a good chance it was:

  • at the bar
  • on the dance floor
  • around the pool tables
  • relaxing on the patio
  • during karaoke or a themed night
  • meeting friends new and old
  • or while you were trying to understand how my hand just opened a website on your phone

One of the best things about queer spaces is that everyone arrives with a different story.

Some people are visiting for the first time.

Some have been part of the community for decades.

Both belong here.

Who Is Ruff?

Ruff is the chaos corgi behind ruffthe.dog.

Part pup, part traveler, part educator, and part curious human who enjoys blurring the line between technology, identity, and connection.

You’ll usually find me:

  • teaching classes
  • mentoring newcomers
  • traveling between communities around the world
  • building weird little technology projects
  • helping people feel welcome in community spaces
  • creating just enough chaos to keep things interesting

What Am I About?

Community changed my life.

What began as a personal journey eventually became something much bigger: visibility, education, stewardship, and connection.

A lot of what I do is built around one simple idea:

#UnapologeticallyPuppy

It means helping people feel seen, welcomed, supported, and encouraged to show up as themselves.

No matter where you came from, how you identify, or where you are in your journey, you deserve spaces where you can connect without apologizing for who you are.

Why Does My Hand Scan?

Because meeting someone should be memorable.

The implant you scanned is a tiny NFC chip in my hand. Your phone briefly powered it and sent you to this page.

No batteries.
No tracking.
No secret chaos-corgi operating system.

Just a little piece of technology and a fun way to connect.

Every tap represents a moment of connection.

And communities are built one interaction at a time.

One Last Thing

Whether you’re a Salt Lake City local, visiting from somewhere far away, exploring the community for the first time, or reconnecting with old friends, thank you for being here.

Queer spaces matter.

They give us places to gather, celebrate, dance, laugh, learn, and show up as ourselves.

I’m glad our paths crossed at Club Try-Angles.

And if someone asks how you got my contact information…

You already know what to tell them.

You scanned my hand. 🐾
